Newbie from Kansas City

just use a plain jig head 1/32 or 1/16 and put the minow on the jig hook.

Tom,
If there is current you may want to up that jig size. I usually fish two 1/8 oz jigs, one about 16 inches above the other, when fishing current. Good luck.

Welcome from Clinton

Welcome from Mid-Mo. Although you think your boat is of adequate size please be careful. Good fishing, Dave

I vertical jig trees alot and use a #3 split shot up 6" from a minnow on a fairly large 1 or 1/0 aberdeen hook. It weighs alot, so I lower it slowly, 2 feet at a time. If your hood does become snagged on a branch, don’t pull on it, just bounce the sinker below the hook and it will frequently knock it loose. Don’t be afraid to fish a dead minnow. If they’re dying, just put ice on them so they keep their color. I know some guys that purposely kill their minnow with ice so they don’t swim around branches and get hung.

Looks like I forgot to post the link to the Conservation Atlas Conservation Atlas | Main Search | Atlas Database version 1.9

A couple of lakes from the atlas:
Area Summary
On state hwy 33 north of 116 just east of Plattsburg. An old fishing club purchased and expanded by the state. I believe all the lakes are catch and release. I’ve only fished it once… Saw a couple of guys in a boat like yours. Easy access.

And… a diamond in the rough: Area Summary
Very rough… a 37 acre lake… supposed to hold good bass as well as panfish. North of Edgerton on hwy B to a paved country road on the left. County Rd E26S Paved part of the way. It will bend back to the south. Area primarily for hunting. No parking lot close to the lake. Print the map or you’ll never find it. I had to make 2 trips around the conservation area before I found the lake. Scout before you gol
Park on the gravel road just after the sign that warns “impassible during high water” You can see a muddy spot on the left side of the road where someone has conveniently placed a plank. Walk the plank, scramble up the hill and go 30 yards to the dam. Beautiful little lake. Not a soul in sight. Note, if you drive through the big mudhole from the north, you’ve gone too far. There is an old road from one of the parking lots (gate locked) that looks like you could pull a little boat if it had wheels or a featherweight trailer. It begins at the southernmost parking lot (see map)… probably 3/4 mile to the lake from there but you’d have a tough time dragging the boat/battery/trolling motor up the grade from the first spot I mentioned. Think I’ll try it in a float tube… Scout it out before you load up with the boy… might take some planning.

Welcome from Nixa MO. Glad to have ya on the site. Lots of good info on this board. Good luck fishing.

SS,good link..Hartell is a nice spot..like you said,catch and release only,also artificial bait only,no live bait.
