"The Bait Pump": Where to Buy

Necessity is the mother of invention. And while the Bait Pump is an invention that clearly has superior traits, and performs the function it was intended to be used for … some syringes “do work”, and can be used as a substitute. Not everyone can afford a $1.00 custom made jig, much less $20 Bait Pumps. So, rather than exclude them from being able to use Nibbles in a more efficient manner, it has been suggested that certain sizes of “oral syringes” can be used, at a significantly lower cost. There’s no doubt, in anyones mind, that the Bait Pump is superior in function … it does what it was designed to do, and does it efficiently. There are those, however, that cannot justify the cost … even if it is fair market value, made in the USA, a member’s product, has great customer service, etc. Those whom cannot afford it, and those that cannot justify the cost vs the amount of usage they may make of it, are only being given a suggestion of a substitute … that, in their opinion, works under the conditions & usage timeframe that they employ, and costs little to nothing.
I don’t remember anyone implying that a syringe is superior to a Bait Pump, in function … but, merely that some of them do work, and are less expensive. IF those criteria are important to a member, I’d suggest they give the oral syringes a try … and if the money is not an issue, then the Bait Pump is the obvious choice.

My .02 is the OP wouldn’t have been asking where to buy if he didn’t intend to buy it, so why even bring the syringes up? If he had of asked where to buy a tool to inject nibbles into a tube, then by all means they should have been brought into the conversation…If someone asked what the best size syringe was to inject, I wouldn’t butt in and tell em about the bait pump…

Thats what the PM’s are for but some people dont get it. Why hi-jack a thread when you can contact them personally and give them suggestions. Even CP fed into it this time.

Got em here at Grizzly!!!

I like mine

… I gave the oral syringe a test run, to see if it would, in fact, work with Berkley Nibbles. It did, and I posted pics to show that. This was not done to deter members from buying a Bait Pump, but to just show that there were cheaper alternatives available, if a member was not financially capable of affording the cost of this product.

That all being said … very few members are going to send individual PM’s to the post originators, if their “opinions or suggestions or questions” are not on subject. They’re going to simply place them in the thread. This form of hijacking has been present since I’ve been a member, and not likely to change. Right or wrong … it’s the nature of the beast, and we all have to deal with it as best we can. You have no idea how much I wish that posting members would stay on subject, with their replies  … but, it just isn’t practical to expect it.

I give/gave The Bait Pump it’s “props” … and have even shot down some of the “alternatives” in question (certain syringes, basters, bulb syringes, etc). But I cannot ignore the fact that a substitute does exist, does work, and is not expensive. And I cannot & will not lock a thread, once a reply (that answers to the original post) is posted, nor will I delete replies that offer alternatives or suggest them. That would defeat the purpose of the message board. All of the posts are the opinions of the member making it, and should be taken as such. There’s no need for debate … or disrespecting a members choice, or opinion. The person asking the question has the job of weeding thru those, and make up his/her own mind as to the validity of the replies received.

I got mine today and after seeing the quality of it wish that I had gotten it sooner. I can’t wait to take it to the water this weekend. Someone on this thread said to put a tube over the end to keep your nibbles moist. That sounds like a winner. Has anyone done anything different to keep them moist?

Here is article submitted to FUSA that answers question:

If you have not used a Bait Pump before…you need to try one. No more of your crappie nibbles falling off during the cast. No more crappie nibbles falling off of your hook minutes after your jig is in the water. The Bait Pump compress your crappie nibbles into a thick like paste.

Take a tube jig and using the Bait Pump just fill your jig full…It will stay there untill it all finally disolves away. You get longer life out of your fish attractant this way plus catch more fish. The one thing that Bait Pump did not do…you can do yourself.

They did not manufacture the Bait Pump with a cap to seal it off where you could leave the unused bait attractant in it from fishing trip to fishing trip without it drying out. Here is what I did.

I took a short piece of rubber automotive vacume hose and used a short machine screw a little bit larger than the inside diameter of the hose and screwed it in one end of the hose to seal the end of the hose…now just push the other end on the snout on the Bait Pump and you have have your bait attractant sealed air tight. So, I’ve never heard of nor seen a Bait Pump until I got on this forum and now after actually reading the thread, I’m kind of interested.

First, where can you find Crappie Nibs at? I have some little green nibs but they aren’t really labeled of what fish they are for, stupid purchase by me. Next question, do you insert these into empty tube jigs or how does it work?

Information please

I have not found it a problem with the bait pump where the nibble paste will dry up and seal the tip of the bait pump up where it would not express the paste out of the tip. I’ve left the bait pump laying in the boat for weeks where I haven’t used it or covered the tip up and whenever I’ve picked it up to use it it worked.

Being a lazy sole I tend to not use nibs or the bait pump if the fish are biting for me.

Sometimes when getting things ready to go the next day I will inject the paste into the tubes or solid baits the day before so the paste will dry out in the plastic baits I have rigged up on the rods.

I got my Crappie nibbles at Wal-mart. Yes, they are injected into the cavity of the tube. Leaves a nice scent trail in the water. Fish find and fish eat. Case closed.

WalMart, BassProShops, Dicks Sporting Goods, The Academy, and Cabelas all have crappie nibbles. I like to put the crappie nibbles into the bait pump then add a couple of drops of Berkley power bait attractant for crappie and then inject that mixture into my tubes. Works great!

The Bait Pump outfit is a class act. Great American made product, great customer service and a fair price. Outfits like this are getting rare these days and I feel they should be supported, not undercut. Good ideas are hard to come by but it’s easy to steal an idea. I’ve bought over 100 from them and will buy more. An outdoor writer I took out earlier this month was so impressed with them he had me demo one while he took a youtube video and I’m glad to see it’s getting some hits. Hopefully it will lead to some more sales.

Also you can add a drop or two of Anise and some Cod Liver oil.:D:D:D:D

The fish may as well just give up and jump voluntarily into the frying pan because that will surely get them.:D:D Get the hot sauce ready.

Why don’t you post the link to the video here in this thread?

I really think it was a blessing when Randy and Anna Hulin designed and invented the bait pump. I had heard so much about it over the past year but never got around to getting one. My dad, Bob Spare, sent me one for this coming Father’s Day. I could not wait until Father’s Day to check it out once I saw it.

It is extremely well constructed and immediately made me throw away all the syringes I had been trying to use with no good results.

Now I had no more mess when fishing Crappie nibbles. I do like to add a little cut up marshmallow, a few drops of anise and some cod liver oil to my mixture. If I was chasing channel cats I would add some crushed wheaties and creamy p-nut butter.

I love the way it cleans up after use too. Right now I am using a tube to cover the nozzel to keep the nibbles from drying out. My friend David Shands is sending me a cover he designed for that purpose. Anyway, if you fish tubes and love to add a mixed scent to the bait, then get a bait pump.

This review was by me and I personally approve this message.

Ship,If you do a search of crappie brownlee it should come up along with some other videos he took that day.

I’ve got the Bait Pump an LOVE it. Just order another one so my son can have one in the back of the boat, and leave mine alone.

Thanks Gary
