I finally got up enough back bone to go see an oral surgeon. I have the main thought of, if it ain’t broke, don’t mess with it. Well, I’ve had a few teeth break right above the gum line, so at Ms Joyces insistence I went and seen a dentist. The first one must have thought I had bottomless pockets. To pull everything and make dentures, after the insurance they wanted $12,000.00….AAAHHHH, no. I got a hold of an Oral surgeons office, went in. Insurance paid for that visit completely. The dentist said he would pull everything, but I would have to go to an other dentist for new teeth, as they don’t do those. Went to Ms. Joyces Dentist office and they said They could make me a set of Dentures for under $1200.00. so the surgery is on the 9th of April, Already paid for. I am not going to do dentures till my mouth is completely healed, all swelling gone and gums healed, so There wont be too many fitment adjustments to get a good set of pearly whites…
Here’s to a quick recovery ![]()
Thank you Bon_Temps,
Yup, speedy recovery. My grandfather hated his dentures so just never wore them. He just gummed everything down…![]()
My dad wore them from 1958 tilll his heavenly departure in Dec. 1981. Only time he really complained was when a tiny piece of hard food worked between the Gum and Denture plate…
Good luck!
Thank you everyone. Looks like I’ll be loosing some weight too. Liquid diet, Absolutely Nothing to eat that can’t be mashed between the tongue and roof of the mouth, so a lot of cool soups, till the gums are healed up…
G’mornin Eric. I had my uppers done years back, a story I won’t bore you with. I dealt with Affordable dentures, a national chain. They gave a set when the teeth were pulled and another set 6 to 8 months down the road. What I can say is that losing weight and just the nature of the beast is that the healing and shrinking takes many months. My first set had a silver star embedded in them and the permanents have a gold star. They look great and work great. Just thought you might look at them while you’re doing the homework.
Thank you Skeet, Greatly appreciate the info. I’ll take a gander at them.
Well, tomorrow morning, early. Be there 0745…Not really looking forward to it, but a necessity…Prayers please.
You’ll be fine. Prayers for successful procedure and speedy healing.
Praying for you Eric, I remember the discomfort. Spaghetti is your friend.
Relining ill fitting fixtures doesn’t last long so be patient.
Well, took about an hour then recovery for 30 min. I’m feeling ok what with the numbing agent but got cotton stuffed in my mouth…
One tough part out of the way. Hope you get some sleep.
Nurse did her part setting me up…Dentist walked in, asked if I had any questions, put something in the IV and next thing I knew it was done…mouth didn’t feel good and as you could see My mouth was jammed up with 2x2’s…1 oxycodone and a Ibuprofen and 3 hrs sleep later, my jaw muscle is sore, and center of and both sides of my chin is a bit stiff and tender. bleeding has stopped, and am eating some Vanilla Yogurt and pudding. Other than that I’m good right now. Thank you to those who talked to the good Lord on my behalf. Thank you…
Got what was left of my teffees pulled on 9 April…Gums healed enough I can mash some foods with them, not bite through, mash through…Made an appt. with an actual dentist office for gum exam, and they said no impressions for dentures yet. Need to heal a bit more, and made another appt for two weeks. So I go back May 8th and hopefully can get the impressions then. Will still take about a month till I get actual teeth in my mouth. Till then its soft foods. sure miss my occasional steak and chops, anything you need teeth to bite through… Tacos, burritos, Grilled ham and cheese, crispy bacon really herts the gums as does crispy chicken skin, pizza crust. Lots of foods you don’t think about needing teeth for…Soon,
Glad to hear of the progress. I know first hand of the discomfort and second hand from my wife that had all of hers pulled at the same time. Black and blue for over a week for her. You might enjoy a bowl of pasta and if mama chops the meat up small enough you can get thru that too. Heal fast and I hope the progress goes well. There is a steak in your future.
Thank you skeet. Bit of a snaffu happened though, nothing I can do about it though. Mother Nature through me a curve ball…Hail took out the windshield of our only current vehicle and wont be fixed, Good Lord Providing till the 11th, so had to move the appt back. Bright side is a few more days of the healing process. Probably return the 10’ u-haul today. they are calling for more hail tonight. Praying it’s no where like the last one…
