Should I tie a knot that leaves a small loop so the jig can move freely or tie a knot directly to the jig and cinch it down so the jig hangs exactly how I want it to be everytime?

What about using a swivel dose that as good as a loop knot ?

Depends on who you ask. I always tie direct.
On jigs I use a loop knot. Minners I tie a palomar directly to the hook…just my :twocents. Ymmv
I was always a firm believer in a tight improved clinch knot. Last year I tried using the loop knot. I will not go back to a tight knot on a jig again. I believe the action of the jig improves with a loop.

That was what an old man told me he said if you don’t have a loop for the jig to bounce and move more naturally you won’t catch as many. They also sold tiny clips that you tie on with a regular knot and clip your jig into a small loop. The clips were very small about the size of an o-ring on a crankbait lip. They are awesome for changing jigs without re tying every time.

Ive used the Loop knot for a long time. It allows the lure to move as designed to.
I’d recommend the loop over the direct tie. Doing so appears to give the jig a more natural swimming action, in my opinion. But the game is all about confidence! Whatever helps you achieve the confidence level you need to get the job done.
Just so you know, I do NOT use a loop knot. I don’t like the idea of the eye of the jig sliding (and abrading) the line inside the loop. But I do use a loop, just not the kind you are thinking about. I use Mustad Snap Hooks instead. These tiny, almost weightless clips (which were designed by & for fly fishermen), are tied directly on the end of my line. Thereby giving me not only the “loop” effect, but it also allows me to quickly change jigs. I hate having to re-tie all the time. 
I use a loop knot unless vertical jigging then I tie a tight knot. Just how I roll.

Overhanded Loop is very easy to tie. Any advantages of tying a different loop knot over this one? Example, non slip loop knot instead of Overhanded?

I find the FasSnaps use a really thick wire. Don’t like that heavy a connect on my jigs. Besides, unless you’re a Rockerfeller, they cost an arm & leg! Here’s a much lighter and less expensive option:

Those look like they would catch a lot of debris.
PS I took your advice and started using a black jig a with split shot above it, and slow
rolling just off the bottom. The big gills have been nailing it …thanks.
