With Dice Baits / Coike Lures being all the rage for bass fishing that past year, I decided to make up my own using some torn up soft plastics I keep for just such an occasion.
I used Plaster from Walmart, some cheap blank dice from Amazon, a plastic tray I’ve used for making tons of these homemade molds, and Mod Podge from Michaels to seal the mold after it dries. The Mod Podge is a water-based sealer that allows the lures to have a shiny finish when they pop out of a plaster mold. Otherwise, they have a dull finish to them.
I cut up some old torn Senko’s and melted them over a low heat in small pouring pots. I make sure I kept the plastic stirred, to ensure even distribution of the salt Senko’s have in them. Poured slowly into the mold and let them cool. Once peeled out of the mold, I used a threader I bought to thread spinnerbait / jig skirt material through the lures. Before threading it, I squirted a bit of Berkley Gulp! Alive! crawfish scent onto a piece of aluminum foil with the skirt strands. This allows the material to slide through the plastic easier and gives it that smelly Berkley scent fish love.
I’ve caught a lot of fish on these this year, and will be pouring more soon. Going to try out some laminated colors, pausing between pours and hoping it’s just long enough that the colors are slightly separate, but don’t come apart at the seam between colors.
