lots of people have put too much information in front of me about Dam fishing. I’ve been a few times and yesterday was my second solo trip. I pay better attention to what’s around when I’m by myself. Having learned some about what likes to hang out where, I went straight to business. I brought my fighting gloves today. Some of my inshore gear got loosened up. The black rod in the pic is a 7mhf and a lightweight with a 3000 Diawa Regal and 10lb braid. Tied on a crank that I bought new in the box at a yard sale, purple over chartreuse. Threw up into some real quick moving water and on the second cast it went thump. When I leaned back on it, the rod stopped. This was special. Not a desirable fish as it was a big drum, but what a fight. About 12lbs or so.
I only saw one more of those and it was much smaller. Then the white bass started showing up, or maybe I did something different that they liked. When it was really active it was like this; pitch the bait way upstream and try to let it get pushed around. At some point there’ll be a thump kinda like a crappie but much more active. Then the line comes tight and the drag begins to speak. Good size on the fish and they’re all still there.
The rods were used for reds and inshore stuff and there was a few that felt good on them. The reel had the XH in the model so the gears made line pickup noticeably better. Back to the light stuff soon, this is a good distraction. Y’all get out some…Tim
