Yesterday was phenomenal! The day was cloudy, chilly (50) with a steady +15 mph wind. The lake has a seasonal weed that grows thick in areas, thereby allowing only topwater lures. But once I left the dock, the sonar showed those weeds on the bottom but not near the surface, allowing casting all around the boat in 6-7’. If it wasn’t for me seeing baitfish schools on the sonar, I probably would have left. But first cast - a 9" crappie!
8 more crappie were caught casting around the boat and then I pulled up anchor and moved about 50’. More fish!
Many areas held fish which also included bass and sunnies. Four lures I cast, caught fish and one especially: a hybrid I made using 1" french fry body and thin tail from a molded lure.
If it wasn’t for me frezzing in shorts and a thin sweatshirt, I would have caught more than 100 fish. But 79 fish that included many 9-10" crappie and 1.5 lb bass made my day!
Looks like you figured them out on this trip. 79 thumps is what we dream about. I always bring extra jacket in the fall through spring. It sucks if I am forced to put it on the trailer because I get too cold. Thanks for report
You’re welcome. Strange that I thought I knew the lake and its seasonal patterns, having fished there 30 yrs. But anglers who do better know there’s always something to discover whether it be locations,lures that excel or presentations that enhance a lure’s action. Now it’s time to make some more Fr.Fry/mo magic-thin-tail hybrids. Who knew the shape would get slammed by so many fish!
Very nice mixed bag. One more layer might have been the difference of breaking the 100 mark but 79 is a great day. I certainly can’t take the cold or heat like I used to.
Good thing Mon.and Tues.are going to be warmer and semi-cloudy: perfect conditions for mid-depth and surface fishing. Also, I prefer weekdays when no one’s fishing (i’m retired) and no anglers around to take note of my spots, seeing me catch fish after fish after fish. Hate seeing someone beating me to my spots before I even launch. (…now if I can only get my stuff organized before I go out again…)
Any day I can catch even 30 fish is a perfect day. Today I was on the lake at 2:30 and caught 37 fish - a nice mix until I left at 5:30. Caught sunfish, y.perch, bass and crappie mostly on one small lure:
Now, if only the 20+mph wind would die, I’d go out again. Yesterday it maxed at 30 mph for most of the day. At least I worked on boat and tackle stuff long overdue.

I like sharing with fellow fanatics so long as they aren’t local. No point sharing with the competition that fish the same local waters. None of them visits cr.com or shares with me so the info is safe.
Today windy again - 24 mph gusts. Guess I’ll be making lures and stocking the tackle box - AGAIN!
(BTW, we have RAIN-deer visit when the weather is changing. This morning 3 were near the house grazing, which indicates a major front is coming. In fact 80 tomorrow and rain the next few days. Yesterday’s high was 48. They are more accurate than the weather channel LOL)
